Originally posted for my other Tumblr blog at larecon, this video is both timeless, and family-friendly! I love Hal Roach shorts!

Watch the 1932 Laurel & Hardy short film, “The Music Box”, and check out the birth of a Silverlake neighborhood landmark. The steep staircase that the comedic duo must use to move a piano does not actually lead to a private residence on 1127 Walnut Avenue. Rather, this public staircase begins between 923-935 Vendome Street and continues upward, connecting pedestrians to Descanso Drive. Take a slight detour just south of Sunset Boulevard and enjoy a piece of entertainment history… and a great workout!

Silverlake’s Zanzabelle is my favorite curiosity shop & ice cream parlour. Quaint and quirky, this small delight is a welcome change from the Pinkberry crowd, and also makes some great sandwiches. Originally drawn in years ago by the fantastic life-size giraffe, I return again and again to drool not only over the tasty treats, but also the unique gift selection. Zanzabelle is my retro wonderland! - Amy

Scavenger's Delights!

I’ve recently joined forces with my friend Kim, on starting an LA-based scavenger hunt company, LA Reconnaissance. Though we’re just prepping hunt #3, I hope to soon be able to offer up some unique, family-friendly scavenging opportunities around Los Angeles too! Along with our quirky event planning, we’re also launching our own blog. I’ll be reposting the most HYP of our fave selections in and around Los Angeles here too.

Etsy Pick O’ the Day: The Aphid by PterodactylPants
For five days during 6th grade camp at Lake Cachuma I was a proud member of the “Aphids.” In honor of the start of camp season, I bring you this plush creepy crawler (with gaping bug teeth!)

Water Rocket - Liquid Propellied Spaceship - Archie McPhee (Warning: They really mean it when they say it propels about 35 feet. Fortunately, my nephews have very nice neighbors who return stray toys. Though, this has now been classified as a “park toy”)
