A Zoologist is a person in your neighborhood… (via What, if Anything, Is Big Bird? | PechaKucha Presentations, discovered via BoingBoing!)

I’m a big fan of David Tobocman (both the person and the musician). His music follows the type of songs that I gravitated to as a young girl. As a fan of both Mister Rogers and oddball cartoons like M.U.S.H. (yes, that would be a short-lived animated spoof of M.A.S.H. featuring canines!) I always appreciated both sweet and silly in equal amounts. David Tobocman’s Very Helpful Songs finds just the right way to teach important lessons in a musical manner that is sentimental without being saccharine. I’m especially partial to the title track from Lemonade School and “It’s You I Like” (perhaps my favorite Fred Rogers cover ever). For those of us lucky to be in the LA area, you can catch him this month at the Abbot Kinney Festival KidsQuad, Sunday, September 25th at 11:30am!
Next week I’ll be posting an interview with Ashley Albert of The Jimmies. Until then, enjoy BEDHEAD (by thejimmies) and be sure to set your alarm to back-to-school time!

I too had a Casio ToneBank with the Wham demo song. Now, my nephews get to enjoy the synthesized stylings of “Wake Me Up Before You Go” as I teach them to play the piano. (Casio Demo by RETRO13VIRUS)
